Hi sweethearts!
Since I’m already back in the Netherlands for a few days, I decided it’s time for my first Corfu post! :)
As most of you guys know I went to Corfu this summer for a one-week holiday. We decided to go there since we were looking for a pretty villa in a hot and sunny country. While searching for one, this villa showed up: we really liked it and we haven’t been to Greece before so the choice was easy :)
Furthermore, we also decided to stay in a hotel close to the airport the night before our flight would leave. Last year we had the most terrible experience when we arrived at the airport only 30-45 minutes before the flight would leave (mainly because of the enormous traffic jams that caused our two hour delay). Luckily, we where able to get on the plane, but we’ve never been so stressed and it wasn’t a great start of the holiday. So, this year everything went fine and it just felt so much better :)
The moment we arrived at Corfu airport, a man was waiting outside to guide us to our rental car. That’s really a must have on this island if you want to see some things other than your hotel or villa. Another real bonus is the fact that the car had airconditioning ;) The first ride to our vacation villa was quite scary, ’cause the roads where steep, there are cliffs and lots of twisty roads. After a few days I got a little bit more used to it, but it’s almost impossible to drive faster than 40 km/h.
When we finally arrived at our villa we really liked the view and the pretty swimming pool! The rest of the house was also nice but there are always some small things that can be improved ofcourse ;) In the next few days we went to the Achilleion, which was a palace of Sissi and we had a quick walk through Agios Gordios (the village closeby our villa). The Achilleion was really pretty from the inside and had some lovely outdoor spaces, but it also really needs some maintenance. The village Agios Gordios was also really cozy with cute souvenir shops and it had a really nice beach.
Finally, on the third day we went to Corfu town for the first time. I really think this is the best thing you can do when visiting Corfu. This city is really pretty and has some lovely museas. We went to the museum of Asian art, which has a nice collection and even is a gorgeous building of itself! Furthermore, we also crossed the gorgeous Spianada Square where I obviously took some pretty pictures :)
Soooo, next week I will share the things I’ve done in the second half of the week when visiting Corfu: Paleokastritsa, Glyfada Beach, and Corfu town (again)!
X
